Loon Models P-51 D-5

Fillet-less fuselage for the Tamiya 1/48 scale model kit

 previewed by Steve Jantscher

These are some of the first releases from the new aftermarket model conversion supplier, Loon Models. This release is a straight forward substitution for use with the 1/48th scale Tamiya P-51 D Mustang kit, enabling one to make an early 'D-5 fillet-less production version of the Mustang. This will come in especially valuable for those wishing to model famous Mustangs from the 357th fighter group (one of the most notable units to receive the 'D-5 variant).

The parts are finely cast in an attractive cream colored resin, and are direct substitutions for the corresponding Tamiya kit fuselage parts. This is a welcome addition for those builders who shy away from hacking plastic, but still want an unusual model to build. Other than a bit of resin flash (easily cleaned up), all these parts need is a rinse in warm soapy water, and some thin superglue to put together. As an extra bonus, a separate rudder is included.
